The words “work” and “job” can cause some to immediately show signs of distress, however it doesn’t have to be like that. Finding the right job that offers maximum quality of life  is possible and can lead to incredible performance results. Trying to decide if you’re working for a company that feels like a good fit? Check out the few key things I noticed long before Vydia was named to NBIZ’s Top Places to Work in New Jersey that let me know I was in the right spot to build my career:

You look forward to work – even on Monday Morning

ChipotleMondays are hard enough to get through, but with with the right workplace and team, instead of looking at Monday as the end to your weekend, you being to look at it as a start to another great week. Every Monday morning we kick off our workweek with a company-wide meeting, paired with a wide array free breakfast sandwiches and fruit; where we get focused, full, and prepared for the week ahead. Our endless (and much needed) supply of coffee and free snacks are more than enough to re-energize us through any mid-day or mid-week slump. Sometimes our management team will even surprise us with a free Chipotle lunch to celebrate a company achievement or just because we really like Chipotle.

Being locked away in a cubicle does not seem like a comfortable or exciting way to spend the 40 hours a week you’ll be working in your office. Find an environment that will inspire you. Our new office is outdoor themed. The room itself is surrounded by windows and there are no cubes just long tables for each team to work on. This open environment is the ideal collaborative workspace for maximum communication and the spreading of ideas because every employee is just a short walk or a scooter ride away. In order to increase the office’s comfortability, and stick to the outdoor theme, our office is equipped with a hammock, grass seating area, and plenty of bean bag chairs to kick back and relax during slower parts of the work day.

You feel management invests in your career development

At a company that is growing rapidly, it is easy to get lost in translation or feel like your contributions are not being recognized. Within the past year Vydia has grown its team by over 35%. As one of the later hires, I was worried I would get swept under the rug as just another new employee with little responsibility, however that was not the case. Within my first month working here, I got to sit with our Co-Founder and CEO Roy LaManna for a writing workshop where he shared his industry knowledge and gave us tips on a one-to-one basis. His accessibility and approachability is easily apparent with the rest of the management team. Every employee feels valued because our management team gives us the opportunity to voice our opinions in making decisions for the office. For example, when the new office was being designed, our management team looked to us to help pick out decorations and props to ensure that the space would feel comfortable. They also allow us to try different roles to expand our skill set and really find our niche within the company.

Most importantly, every success at Vydia, no matter the size, gets noticed and celebrated. Every week our management team gets together and goes over what each department was able to accomplish during the week. At the end of every Friday, we are sent a Weekly Highlight Reel that acknowledges all of the accomplishments of each department and specific individuals, making us feel that all of our hard work really matters!

You don’t need a vacation

Unlimited vacation days are an awesome benefit that we have, but what is even cooler is the fact that we don’t have the feeling that we desperately need to use them. Team culture can make or break an office, and we have been lucky enough to cultivate a great one. When we are not hard at work, you can find us hanging around in our grass area or speeding around the office on our scooter. Our lunch breaks consist of visits to the onsite gym, throwing a ball around on the turf or taking the office drones out for a spin. We love to stay challenged with friendly competitions, from a friendly paper airplane contest to our question of the week trivia. Every month we participate in team bonding events like an improv night, a trip to Medieval times,  or a weekend-long beach outing. All work and no fun can be detrimental to a company’s dynamic, so make sure you’re in an environment that understands that balance is key!
