It is crucial to ensure your content is protected and generating royalties online. Whether you’re looking to maximize your earnings with monetization, block unwanted uses by third parties, or collect your recording owner royalties from SoundExchange, Vydia’s technology makes it easy to efficiently implement your rights management strategy.

Protection Policies

As protecting your intellectual property is our priority at Vydia, we encourage all of our users to proactively safeguard their content with our protection policies. Based on your content strategy goals, the Vydia platform enables you to select different protection policies for how you want your content managed on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

After uploading content and asserting your rights, easily select from the following protection policies:

  • Monetize – Selected platforms may display advertisements with the content, generating revenue that Vydia collects on your behalf.
  • Block – Selected platforms will prevent users from uploading content that contains your copyrighted material.
  • Permit – Selected platforms will allow users to upload content that contains your copyrighted material. Performance metrics, including views, will be tracked, but revenue will not be generated.
  • No policy – Vydia will not claim your content on selected platforms.

SoundExchange

Along with setting policies for how your content is managed on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, the Vydia platform also allows you to collect royalties from SoundExchange.

SoundExchange is a collection society that collects performance royalties earned on the sound recording from non-interactive digital streaming services. Please note, SoundExchange collects from the U.S. only.

Determine how your royalties are collected from SoundExchange by selecting one of the following options after upload:

  • Claim From Inception – Vydia will deliver and collect on your content from SoundExchange from the date your recording was released. This is commonly selected when royalties have never been collected.
  • Claim From Specific Date – Vydia will deliver and collect on your content from SoundExchange from the specific date that you provide within the platform. This is commonly selected in a catalog transfer where a previous party has rights up to a certain date. If this is the case, select the date after the previous rights holders’ rights are terminated.
  • Do Not Claim – Vydia will not claim your content from SoundExchange.

Vydia only collects the Rights Owner portion of royalties on your behalf, so make sure to register as an artist to collect the other portion, if applicable. For more information about how SoundExchange splits up royalties, go here.

Is Your Content Ready For Protection?

In order to provide you with the most efficient protection process possible, your content must meet Vydia’s and our partner platform standards and guidelines before protection policies can be applied.

Ensure your content is ready for protection:

  • Understand & Assert Ownership Accordingly – Do you own a portion or 100% of the copyrighted content you are attempting to submit and protect? If you are using a “free beat” downloaded from the internet or have another company that represents your music, please contact Vydia Support for next steps.
  • Provide Your Metadata – You will need to provide detailed and accurate metadata for each individual asset you have ownership over. The Vydia platform uses both metadata and reference files to flag content and ensure the revenue is going back to its rightful owner.
  • Connect Your Socials – If you are looking to protect your content across the web, you will want to ensure your social accounts are linked to your Vydia account.
  • Monitor Your Account – As you submit content for protection, make sure you are consistently logging into your Vydia account to keep an eye out for additional correspondence from our team as you may need to complete additional steps before any protection can be applied.
  • Keep Us Updated With Ad Campaigns – Vydia and its partner platforms have strict guidelines against fraudulent activity, including paying for views and playlisting. Please provide information regarding any advertising campaigns, including from Google Ads, at the onset of your audio or video release to prevent denial from these platforms.
